The 11 International research and practice conference «Autism. Challenges and Solutions» stressed the need to follow up and implement the supreme directives of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the State, may Allah protect him, on the Comprehensive Strategy for People of Determination 2020-2024 in Abu Dhabi, which covers all time stages of the life of an individual of determination, in the most important fields such as health and rehabilitation, education, employment, welfare and social protection, and engagement in social, sports, cultural, entertainment and tourist public life, geared towards turning Abu Dhabi into an inclusive, qualified and empowering city for people of determination,
The conference was held under the auspices of His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Zayed Higher Organization for People of Determination (ZHO), in cooperation and coordination between ZHO and the Lotus Holistic Alternative Medicine and Health Center-Abu Dhabi and the Russian Society for Autism Challenges and Solutions in Moscow - Russian Federation from April 27th-30th,2023 at the Beach Rotana Hotel, Abu Dhabi.
ZHO’s Secretary-General His Excellency Abdullah Abdul Ali Al Humaidan voiced his happiness at the success of the conference, and thanked the success partners, Lotus Holistic Alternative Medicine and Health Center-Abu Dhabi and the Russian Society for Autism Challenges and Solutions in Moscow - Russian Federation, and all the sponsors and conference committees. He pointed out that the conference came out with outputs and recommendations that will be worked on in the coming years through the participating parties to develop an action plan to implement all the recommendations.
He said that ZHO seeks to continue organizing the conference on a regular and sustainable basis, and hopes that these successes will follow for the benefit of people of determination, especially those with autism. He explained that the materials of the conference will be collected and research, main trends and theories of special interventions in cases of autism, whether in psychiatry or education, will be brought into various publications and educational means. Moreover, foundations will be laid for the formation of international research teams that include scientists from the UAE, Russia and other countries. Mutual visits will also be organized for specialists from ZHO and Russian Society for Autism Challenges and Solutions in Moscow - Russian Federation in 2024 to monitor the best practices and rehabilitation and education programs already applied to cases of autism in these countries.
The conference called on health authorities to work to provide health care based on a multidisciplinary approach for cases of autism so as to reinforce specialized medical care for children to treat diseases associated with autism. It also called on educational authorities to advance the process of integration into the education system, and to advance all necessary legislation for the development of comprehensive education in the UAE, the Russian Federation and the countries of the world.
He called public and private institutions to strengthen the legal regulatory efforts needed for the professional training of specialists in the field of Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), with a focus on the international standard for training professionals to this method which is the most effective to intervene in autism spectrum disorder, and the formation of working groups to implement international projects in the field of research and clinical practices.
At the close, participants, including experts and specialists in the fields of behavior modification and biomedicine and its developments, as well as bodies and institutions from 26 countries around the world, thanked His Highness Sheikh Khalid bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his patronage of the conference. They praised the care and rehabilitation enjoyed by the people of determination in the UAE, and hailed the programs offered by ZHO to those groups through its centers emirate-wide.
